Summer is finally here! If you live on the upper coast the way I do, you know it was a long time coming. But I don’t plan on relying on our somewhat sketchy summer weather – Instead I’m hitting the open road with my kids, my GPS, and doing a good old fashioned road trip to California.
I’ve done this trip a few times, and I have a few other posts I’ve written for tips along the way. But if you want to know what’s new at the Disneyland resort this summer (just in case you want to try this too), here’s a few cool new things to look forward to:
Cars Land
You’ve probably heard of this (who hasn’t?) What used to be a very convenient parking lot has turned into a full scale Radiator Springs. Visit Lightening McQueen and Mater as they drive the strip, drive Radiator Springs Racers around Radiator Springs, or go for a spin at Luigis’ Tire Shop. There’s no shortage of things to see and do in Cars Land.
Tip – Be there at dusk when they light up the neon. There’s a little fanfare before they turn on the lights.
Buena Vista Street
Right when you walk through the gates of Disney California Adventure, you’ll notice something is different. The water fountain with the California sunshine hovering over it is long gone, and is replaced by Buena Vista Street.
Buena Vista Street is a recreation of when Walt Disney first came to California. There’s a complete replication of the Carthay Circle Theatre where Snow White premiered for the first time, bright red Trolley Cars, and a general ambiance of the 1920’s. If you get a chance, eat at the Carthay Circle Theatre restaurant and immerse yourself in Disney history.
Matterhorn
The Matterhorn has reopened with new bobsleds, and with the reopening they have changed the height restriction to 42 inches.
Brave
If you took in Brave when it opened recently, be sure to stop by and meet Merida in Disneyland. The times she appears will be listed on the brochure at the front gate.
Have a great summer at Disneyland!
